About
Jagaddala Vihara is an archaeological site in Dhamoirhat, Naogaon, associated with the Buddhist learning tradition of the later Pala period. Surviving brick remains help explain the layout of a monastic institution rather than an intact palace. Read the site signs alongside the remains; objects recovered here are also discussed in the context of the Paharpur museum collection.
How to reach
The archaeology department describes an approach from Joypurhat via the Mangalbari–Dhamoirhat road to Hartaki Danga hat, followed by the local road north to Jagaddala. Confirm the onward vehicle and visitor entrance before setting out; a bus reaching Dhamoirhat is not automatically a door-to-door service. Arrange return transport before walking around the site.
Best time
Prefer cool, dry daylight for exposed archaeological ground. Bring sun protection and check the rural approach after heavy rain. Confirm current access with the site staff or archaeology office; do not treat an unfenced area as permission to enter excavations.
Where to stay
Compare accommodation in Naogaon or the town on your onward route. Confirm room availability, total price, arrival time and cancellation conditions directly before committing to an overnight itinerary.
Food
Carry drinking water and a snack, then plan a meal around Joypurhat, Dhamoirhat or Naogaon according to your route. Confirm any nearby stall rather than relying on a museum café; take all litter away.
Travel carefully
Stay on authorised paths and never move bricks, collect fragments or enter excavated rooms without permission. Ask staff before photography of restricted areas. Confirm any current admission arrangement directly. The licensed 2019 photograph documents remains, not today’s conservation work or access status.
Return journey
Agree the return vehicle and pickup point in advance; keep daylight and weather in the return plan.
