Darasbari Mosque
Chapainawabganj · 24.832378, 88.134371
About
Darasbari Mosque in Shibganj, Chapainawabganj, is a roofless Sultanate-period monument within the Bangladesh portion of historic Gour. Tall brick arches and surviving terracotta decoration are the main reasons to stop. The archaeology department dates its construction to 1479. Read the ruined structure as an archaeological site rather than an intact working mosque.
How to reach
Approach through the Shibganj–Sona Masjid road corridor and follow the local turn for Darasbari. Nearby sites are not all connected by a direct road: ask your driver to use the permitted public approach rather than shortcuts through fields or border land. The pin identifies the monument, not a guaranteed vehicle entrance.
Best time
Choose dry daylight and carry sun protection: the missing roof leaves much of the visit exposed. After rain, check slippery bricks and soft ground from the authorised path. Confirm any conservation work or access restriction locally before visiting.
Where to stay
For an overnight heritage circuit, compare accommodation in Chapainawabganj or Rajshahi against the return road journey. Confirm the room, total price and cancellation conditions directly; no property availability is promised.
Food
Carry drinking water and plan a meal around Shibganj or your Sona Masjid road route. Confirm open food services before relying on a stop near the monument; keep all packaging out of the archaeological grounds.
Travel carefully
Stay within authorised visitor areas, keep clear of unstable masonry and never remove fragments. Ask before photographing restricted border-facing areas. Carry identification and follow official directions without approaching the international boundary. The licensed 2016 photograph is an archival reference.
Return journey
Agree the return vehicle and pickup point in advance; keep daylight and weather in the return plan.
